#3 CINEMA ISSUE
A letter from the Editor
Cinema is the theme of the third issue of TWELV; however,
what exactly is cinema? What does it encompass?
Certainly, part of cinema is the art of the moving image
itself. TWELV drew its inspiration for this issue's theme
from classic films set amidst a backdrop of dreaminess
and haziness.
For one, there's my all-time favorite movie, 1995 indie
flick Smoke, featuring among others, Harvey Keitel.
Actually, "favorite" doesn't even begin to describe my
adoration. I must have watched the movie some 40-50
times - at least often enough to catch enough of a buzz
to be persuaded to make the move from Japan to New
York. But I digress. The movie, based in a Brooklyn
smoke shop, knits a yarn out of the rather nebulous plots
and sub-plots illustrating the customer's daily lives.
Blue Velvet / Maggie Grace:
A Dangerous Obsession
Maggie Grace, the stunning star of the Taken saga, recently shared her darker side
with TWELV in an exclusive interview and futuristic photo shoot. The blonde beauty,
who made her big break in the series Lost and now stars on Broadway, odanpened up
to us about her rise to fame, career shift into theatre, and her hopes for the future.
With wet, slicked back hair and dark plum lips, the sultry Grace graced our pages
in edgy pieces from Louis Vuitton, Burberry Prorsum, and Helmut Lang.

Hissa Igarashi, Editor-In-Chief
Hissa
was born in Hokkaido, Japan and raised in Tokyo. His interest in movies and music
led him to study fashion design at Yohji Yamamoto's alma mater, Bunka Fashion
College. Upon graduation, Hissa organized several fashion shows while working
as a stylist's assistant for magazines & celebrities in Japan. He later moved
to New York, where he assisted world-renowned stylists Joe McKenna, on shoots
for magazines like Vogue Italia and Paris Vogue. He began styling independently
in 2007, and is currently based in New York and Tokyo.
